Perrysburg Deputy Fire Chief Rudy Ruiz said fire crews were called to an apartment complex on Sandusky Place at 4:30 a.m. on the report of the incident.
Ruiz said that a male resident living in one of the apartments discovered that there was smoke coming from his living room and found that his couch was on fire. The man reportedly attempted to remove the couch through the front door of the apartment but it became snagged in the doorway.
He sustained burns to his hands and cuts on his feet and was transported to an area hospital.
Ruiz said that Perrysburg police notified other tenants of the nearby apartments, which were vacated immediately. One tenant was away. Perrysburg Township and Rossford Fire also responded to the scene.
Ruiz said that crews were able to knock the fire down quickly and isolate the damage to the one apartment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
